The Crowd is a limited series of small porcelain figures, produced in very small numbers and released in batches. Each set consists of six individually hand-shaped figures, presented together as a quiet gathering.

Every figure is unique. Subtle variations in form, expression, and surface are inherent to the hand-making process and are embraced as part of the work. No two sets are the same.

Designed by multidisciplinary artist Ayça Kubat, The Crowd exists at the intersection of sculpture and intimacy. It can be experienced as a sculptural series, yet it is also conceived as a meaningful gift — one that may be given to oneself, or to someone dearly loved but physically distant.

The figures evoke companionship. They resemble silent, enduring friends: present without instruction, close without intrusion. Over time, they become objects that accompany life rather than decorate it.

The Crowd holds space for what does not need to be solved.

What is 'The Crowd?'

They do not judge.

They do not mislead.

They do not give advice.

They do not interrupt.

They do not explain.

They do not correct.

They simply listen.

The Crowd is a quiet gathering of small porcelain figures, each shaped by hand and fired with care. Each figure carries a different expression — a subtle smile, a pause, a thought left unspoken. When brought together, they exist in silence: attentive, calm, and present.

This project is inspired by the Guatemalan tradition of Muñecas Quitapenas — worry dolls believed to listen to whispered fears and gently carry them away. Rather than offering solutions or answers, they ease the mind through listening alone.

In The Crowd, listening becomes an act of care.

These small figures often resemble our friends — beloved companions who may be physically distant, yet remain close to us spiritually. They recall familiar faces, shared moments, and the quiet comfort of being understood without words. As a collective, they remind us of distant friends, of connection beyond presence, of closeness not defined by proximity.

Each figure is intentionally small, fitting easily into the palm of the hand. They invite touch, pause, and reflection. No two are the same — individuality emerges naturally through form, surface, and expression.

The Crowd is made in Bodrum by ceramic artist Ayça Kubat. Each figure is individually formed, glazed, and finished by hand. Variations are not imperfections, but traces of time, process, and human presence.

You may place them on a shelf, a desk, or by your bedside.

You may hold one quietly, or arrange them together as a small gathering.

You may share a thought, a worry, or a moment of joy — or simply let them be.

This is not an object meant to instruct or decorate loudly.

It is meant to accompany.
